Location

Camp Velenje is a short kilometre away from the city of Velenje, which lies in the eastern part of the Šaleška Valley, along the Paka River. The campsite is located next to one of the largest and most popular lakes in Slovenia, Lake Velenje, which is surrounded by an area popularly called the “Velenje Beach”.

Restaurant & Bar

The campsite restaurant is open throughout the year. There is a variety of dishes on offer to indulge your taste buds, which come with a nice view of the lake. The restaurant can also accommodate larger groups. In Velenje you will find McDonalds, pizzerias and several a la carte restaurants, and in the surrounding area there are a number of tourist farms where friendly locals will prepare authentic local food for you.

Tour of Velenje

If you decide to head to Velenje from the Carinthian side, you will pass through the Huda Luknja Canyon, which was named after the Huda Luknja Cave – one of the first Slovene caves open for tourists. Coming in from the direction of Ljubljana, you will be greeted by a ski jumping hill. Velenje boasts the renovated Old Town, two sports halls, a stadium, parks, several recreation areas, cultural events and much more.

Daily trips

The city is an excellent starting point for one-day trips. We recommend visiting the Mozirski Gaj Flower Park, the city of Celje, a beer fountain in Žalec, the town of Slovenj Gradec, the Mežica Mine, the Kope Ski Resort or going swimming in Ivarčko Lake or the Radlje Water Park by the Drava River, which has the only biological pool in Slovenia. You can also visit nearby spas, offering excellent medical and wellness services: Dobrna, Topolščica, Terme Zreče, Thermana Laško, Rimske Terme, etc.

Sports at the campsite

The campsite rents out SUPs, kayaks, regular and electric bikes, as well as offering wind surfing lessons, massages, guided cycling tours and hiking trips, parachute jumping, paragliding, guided diving and cave excursions. In the evenings, guests can join a guided yoga class on SUPs.

Sports in the area

Within 700 metres of the campsite, there is an outdoor and indoor tennis court, a mini golf course, a football pitch and a beach volley court. About 3 km away, there is an equestrian club where both beginners and experienced horse riders can take riding lessons.

Cycling

There are cycling trails connecting the campsite with the city centre and other villages in the vicinity. You can rent bikes at the campsite and cycle to Paški Kozjak, where there is a themed cycling trail approximately 33km long, suitable for everyone. A mountain bike is required, as almost half of the trail is unpaved.

Hiking

We recommend a walk along the idyllic footpath to the city, which takes about 20 minutes at a normal pace in one direction. At the campsite, you can book climbing lessons for the beginners, or hiking lessons with skilled local guides, or you can go hiking in the forest of Paški Kozjak. The nearest peak, Špik (1109m), offers a look-out point with an exceptional view.

Children’s playground

There is a large children’s playground by the campsite bar. It allows parents to have a relaxing cup of coffee and watch their toddlers having fun on the playground.

Water park

Lake Velenje offers numerous sports activities. The lake also has an inflatable water park, where you can test your water jumping skills, go down water slides and enjoy acrobatics on the trampolines.
